Resources We Utilize

Websites we recommend for safe product options:

Lighting: the one topic not discussed enough in the primate industry. All primates require UVA and UVB exposure for proper absorption of nutrients and the production of others that happen on a cellular level. No oral or injectable forms can replicate what is done naturally with UVB exposure. Two good websites to get bulbs for your primates are:

  • zoomed.com *Note: zoomed is great to decide on a bulb. However you must buy from one of their sellers. Personally I use chewy, the link is here: ‍chewy.com

  • Healthlighting.com this site I choose the ones for birds personally. They work great for areas around the home to have UVB closer to where they may spend time with you outside of their cage.

Lists for where we get our food products:

  • nuts.com : fresh nuts and seeds

  • birdtricksstore.com: freeze dried food, and enrichment toys for shredding

  • Chewy.com : Some of the dry food base we recommend over monkey biscuits that you can try are: Victor Nutra Pro, Gentle Giant, Instinct: limited ingredient, taste of the wild, and Orijen. There are other brands that have great food quality, these are a few that we have success with. Please do not put them on cat food. The taurine and other vitamin levels are too high for primates. Cats are obligate carnivores, while primates are omnivores as are dogs. Also note this is the base. Your primate will need to take in a large portion of their daily meal as fresh vegetation to ensure the proper amount of fiber in their daily diet. As well as veggies or florals high in vitamin c to prevent other deficiencies or illness. (details are explained in my book)

*We recommend growing your own food if at all possible and utilizing what grows naturally around your home (without chemical/pest sprays). We cannot replace the minerals that come from nature in a man made product or food.

  • Diet outlines are difficult to make specific to species due to limited knowledge proven with the vast number of species. However on my Patreon I have a 5, 5, 5 rule that helps most to plan for their weekly shopping. I recommend you reference my book for broader lists of veggies, florals, proteins, etc. *WE DO NOT recommend feeding fruit-defined by the food pyramid!

Lists for materials for building come from many sources, we personally use:

  • tractorsupply.com : Cage panels and horse panels as well as the hardware cloth and hog rings

  • homedepot.com : Lighting fixtures, pvc board, wood, screws, lock nuts, bolts, chain (metal and plastic), hose clamps, etc.

  • amazon.com : metal zip ties, large enrichment platforms, swings, etc.

  • Patreon: I have the tool we use to make our tunnel systems available for purchase. You can also email me here via the contact form if you are in need of a tool.

Websites we often go to for (foraging and shredding) enrichment:

  • Birdtricksstore.com

  • Birdtrickstoys.com

  • Amazon.com

  • Chewy.com

  • Bonkabirdtoys.com

*Important to note: many foraging items, enrichment materials, and more can be found around your home. We recommend searching for safe wood options to build more natural style toys to encourage shredding and destruction while also saving money. We also recommend that you take discretion with any purchase of foraging items or other things being added to your cage. Please ensure you are choosing options that will be safe for your animal and that you are inspecting them regularly to prevent injury.

Behavior management:

When it comes to behavior management many feel training is the focus. The problem with this outlook is that training can not work if the animals needs are not met. If you would like to learn more on this topic, pick up my book and spend sometime with me as I dig into this topic a little deeper.

Primate training tutorials and detailed discussions—including species specific diet plans: patreon.com

It has been important for me over my career to create training videos for my clients. Doing so in a safe way is hard in our current cultural state. So I have utilized Patreon to make this happen. While this resource is being built as of 2025, I have been utilizing the process of collecting videos for the last several decades. You will notice this is intended to be used for private owners, as well as those in facilities. There are multiple tiers to fit your needs. I offer discounts to training classes when you are a member for six months or longer. Feel free to check it out by clicking the link in the drop down menu at the top of the page.
